Kudakwashe Kagudu (Kuda) born March 25, 1999, in Harare Zimbabwe is a self-taught contemporary visual artist. He grew up in the small town of Gwanda Zimbabwe and is now based in Harare. His primary mediums are acrylic paint and charcoal. Kuda started drawing at a very young age. At the age of 12, Kuda was third runner up in the 2011 World Population Day Art Competition sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund in Zimbabwe.
He completed a four-month residency at House of Friends Gallery located in the Kibera Art District in Nairobi Kenya in January 2025. His work was part of the “Figurative Figures” exhibit there. Four paintings from this exhibit were included in a multimedia exhibit entitled “Healing and Restorative Justice” at California Lutheran University in February 2025. Three of the paintings were selected for the “Celebrating the Black Experience” presented by The Kentucky Center for African American Heritage (USA) which opened in Louisville, Kentucky in April 2025. The exhibit is currently on tour throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky through January 2026. Some of his newer works including four scenes from the life of Jesus were on exhibit at “Expressions of Zimbabwe” held in Bulawayo and Ntepe Zimbabwe in October 2025.
Kuda’s paintings are often the result of his ongoing healing process following the death of his mother and various hardships in his home country. Through his paintings, Kuda aims to inspire growth, bring hope, create positivity, and raise awareness.
